The victory day of Bangladesh

December 16 is our victory day. On this day, we achieved our ultimate victory over Pakistan occupation forces and achieved our independence. Every year this day is observed with great fervor and solemnity. It is a red letter day in the life of the Bangladeshis. It comes with great hopes and aspiration. On this day, a new sovereign and independent country named Bangladesh with its own identity, own flag and own status came into being. Bangladesh stood upright among the nations of the world after a ninth month-long bloody struggle and sacrifices of millions of people. So, this day is a red letter day in national history. It reminds us of the great sacrifices and struggle of the dedicated souls in 1971. Millions of people laid down their lives to uphold Bangladesh on the world map as a free, independent sovereign country. In exchange of a sea of blood, we achieved our great historical independence on the 16 December 1971. After the nine months long struggle, the Pakistani army were bound to surrender. So it is a day of great pride for the Bangladesh is.

Long standing exploitation, injustice, and deprivation from due political, economic and administrative rights and privileges were the root causes of discontentment and resentment of the Bangladeshis against the ruling west Pakistani leaders. Matters grew worse when in the general election of 1970, Awami league came out victorious defeating the ruling Muslim league and achievement absolute majority in the parliament. But the then authorities of West Pakistan were Dilly dallying to hand over power to the elected East Pakistan leaders. They were plotting a blueprint to massacre the Bengalis. On the night of December 25, the Pakistani forces launched an atrocious and barbarous attack on the innocent and sleeping Bengalis under the operation search light. By killing the innocent people of Bangladesh they were trying to subdue the spirit of independence of the Bengali, their voice for justice and rights.

The Pakistani army surrendered to the freedom fighters at the race course field in Dhaka. The victory day is a day of great achievement for us. Our nation has been considered a heroic nation. We started our glorious advancement from this historic day. So, this day is very important in the national arena of the Bangladeshis.

We celebrate the day with great respect. People visit the memorials to show their profound respect for the freedom fighters and different sociocultural organizations organize various programs on this day.

If we can ensure a sound life for all, only then the great sacrifice of the martyrs will be garlanded. So, flowing their footsteps, we should try our best to abide by the rules and regulations of our country. Then our victory day will be meaningful.
